Meanwhile, in Reality…
- My 2019 Tesla still beeps at me to take the wheel on perfectly straight highways.
- Software engineers are still very much employed — and quite busy fixing AI-generated code.
- The robotaxi fleets we were promised years ago are still mostly… PowerPoint slides.
And yet, the hype cycle continues. Every new model release is hailed as “the one that changes everything.” Every demo is “mind-blowing.” Every prediction is “right around the corner.”

(We’re still waiting on most of these.)
A Gentle Reminder
Progress in AI and autonomous driving is happening. The technology is improving rapidly. But the tendency to overpromise timelines has become almost comical at this point.
As someone who follows these developments closely, I’ve learned to enjoy the show while keeping my expectations grounded. The future is coming — just maybe not in six months.
