Lucid Motors is hiring a Powertrain Engineering — Efficiency and EV Systems Intern for Summer 2026, based onsite in Newark, California. It's a hands-on role at one of the few US carmakers shipping a luxury EV at scale — a strong fit for mechanical, electrical or aerospace engineering students who want to build the systems that win range.

About the role

This is a 12-week, in-person Summer 2026 program at Lucid's Newark headquarters. You'll sit inside the powertrain group — the team responsible for the motors, inverters, drivetrains and thermal systems that have helped the Lucid Air post some of the highest range numbers in the industry.

What you'll do

  • Analyze and optimize vehicle energy efficiency, performance and thermal behavior across the powertrain.
  • Run simulations and tests on motors, inverters and drivetrain components.
  • Crunch data from test benches and on-vehicle runs to push range and performance.
  • Interface with battery, software and manufacturing teams on cross-functional efficiency improvements.
  • Support prototyping and validation of next-generation EV components.

What Lucid looks for

  • Enrolled in a relevant engineering degree — mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or similar (juniors and seniors preferred).
  • Working knowledge of EV systems, thermodynamics and powertrain fundamentals.
  • Hands-on with MATLAB / Simulink and CAD.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; previous vehicle or EV projects are a plus.
  • US work authorization; must be able to work onsite in Newark, CA.

Compensation and benefits

Paid program, competitive for Bay Area engineering interns — typically in the $30–$50+/hour band. The bigger draw is the project quality: real, high-visibility work on a luxury EV platform with structured mentorship, networking across Lucid's engineering org, and a credible path to return offers.

How to apply

Apply via Lucid's official careers site — check the Early Talent program page for Summer 2026 Powertrain Efficiency intern postings. There is no public hiring inbox; serious questions can go to careers@lucidmotors.com (confirm via the careers site before sending).

Why this matters for your career

Powertrain efficiency is the single most important variable in EV competitiveness — every percentage point of range or charge time is a trade-off across weight, cost and thermal management. The skills you build here transfer cleanly across the broader Auto and Green Tech sectors.
